Assassinated Maguindanao vice mayor was ‘a fresh wind in Moro politics’

In 2003, I did a feature story for Newsbreak magazine about the rise of young Moro politicians. Among those I talked about in my story was Alexander Tomawis, a scion of one of Maguindanao’s political elite who was determined to make a break from his family and his province’s violent past. (Read my story here

On Sunday, Tomawis was shot dead in Davao City. He was vice mayor of Barira town at the time of his death. Many Filipinos, Moro and Christians alike, mourn his violent death.
